Meet the most versatile, compact and advanced LED controller out there: ubisys LD6
Düsseldorf, Germany, April 19, 2023. Equipped with the latest and best Zigbee connectivity, a universal light engine, a 6-channel power stage with almost 300W combined LED drive capability, versatile inputs and a flexible expansion bus in an ultra-compact form factor the LD6 is a unique device addressing a wide range of applications.

Advanced Zigbee Connectivity
The LD6 stands out with its unique combination of Zigbee features not available in any other product: It is among the world’s first commercially available products that feature Zigbee 3.0 with the latest Zigbee PRO 2023 stack including Zigbee Direct (Bluetooth connectivity) and built-in support for maintenance-free Zigbee Green Power switches.
We believe in customer choice and therefore interoperability. The LD6, like any other ubisys Zigbee product, is designed to be compatible with third-party systems, not only the ubisys Smart Home solution. Use it in a Philips hue environment, with your IKEA bridge, a SmartThings hub, an Amazon Echo or eero with integrated Smart Home hub, Cozify, or DIY systems like Homey, Home Assistant, dresden elektronik, openHAB, and iobroker, to name just a few.

With the Conflux Zigbee/Matter bridge in the ubisys G1 the LD6 can also be integrated into Matter systems. Other Zigbee/Matter bridges would work, too, though likely not mapping its full feature set.

Universal Light Engine
Its highly configurable and ultra-versatile universal light engine lets users attach almost any 12V/24V light source to the LD6. More than 20 main configurations provide compatibility with a wide range of standard LED strips and spots, including:
  • monochromatic
  • adjustable color temperature (CCT) with warm-white and cool-white LEDs
  • full color with red, green, and blue (RGB) LEDs
  • red, green, blue and warm-, neutral-, or cool-white LEDs (RGBW)
  • red, green, blue, warm-white and cool-white LEDs (RGB+CCT)
  • red, amber, green, blue, warm-, neutral-, or cool-white LEDs plus another arbitrarily selectable (“free”) color LED (RGBWAF)
  • red, amber, green, turquoise, blue, violet (RGBATV)

You can always take advantage of all the 6 outputs! For example, three tunable-white light strips can be controlled separately, or two RGB strips, or 6 monochromatic lights.

Professional users can fine-tune these configurations for perfect color reproduction results by specifying characteristics available from typical chromaticity test reports (CIE 1931 coordinates and relative intensities). All configurations are made over-the-air. Using Zigbee Direct, this is possible even in systems that don’t support making these settings from their apps natively – just use the ubisys Smart Home App (currently supported by the iOS version) and connect via Bluetooth to the LD6 for making the relevant changes. You can do this before adding the LD6 to the final system, as these settings persist across normal factory resets, or even while it is already in the final system. The former is advisable if the target system has limited device and service rediscovery abilities.

Power Stage
The power stage delivers up to 12A across all 6 channels for an aggregate total of 288W at 24V with robust protection against potential short-circuit, over-current and over-temperature failure conditions. This is enough for very long high-power strips. Add an off-the-shelf 12V or 24V power supply that suits the wattage of your applications.

Versatile Inputs
Next to its six output channels for driving LEDs, the LD6 also has three versatile inputs to offer, which can be used for almost any purpose you could think of. They are also configurable over-the-air. Whether you would like to connect push button switches or bistable switches – one of the dozen switch configurations will certainly address your use case. You can also connect touch sensors, occupancy or proximity sensors and use the 3.3V output provided by the LD6 to supply those sensors easily.

The best part is that you can configure various patterns like on/off, toggle, level control, color temperature control, scene selection and more. Out latest addition, the automation switch, allows you to suspend and resume lighting control automations or have the buttons exposed as Matter switches, via the ubisys Conflux bridge (included in the ubisys G1, for example).

What’s more, the LD6 has a sensor expansion bus, which we will unlock with a future firmware update to enable even more use cases. So, stay tuned…

Industry-Standard Form Factor
The form factor of the housing is according to recommendations of major lighting component standards, making it super easy to incorporate the LD6 into fixtures, luminaires, furniture, false ceilings, behind walls, mirrors, shelves, etc. Mounting holes are included for reliable mounting. At the same time the LD6 is slim and compact resulting in a high power density.

Clamp Terminals
Quick and easy insertion and removal of wires with screw-less push-in terminals. Insertion of single wires is tool-less. Insertion of stranded wires and removal can be done with a slim screwdriver by pushing the driver into the release shaft above each wire outlet.

Warranty and Support
As with other ubisys products for building control, the LD6 comes with a five-year warranty and at least five years of significant firmware updates. Though, in the past we have proven to extend this period to more than 10 years for similar products in the same category. Firmware updates are publicly available on our support web pages free of charge as standard Zigbee OTA files. System integrators may sign-up for early access to beta releases. Free email and phone support is available during office hours, 09:00 – 18:00 Central European Time.

Availability
The firmware with above mentioned features will be released to the public by the end of April. LD6 is available from www.smarthome-store.de, amazon and others.
